About the role
The Sustainable Agriculture Officer
will play a key role in implementing CARE’s sustainable agriculture projects/programs in Vietnam. This position focuses on promoting climate-smart and environmentally friendly agricultural practices, enhancing food security, and improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. This position will involve working directly with smallholder farmers, women entrepreneurs, communities, and other stakeholders to develop and support the adoption of sustainable agriculture practices that enhance productivity, biodiversity, and ecosystem health.
01 position will be based in Lai Chau province
01 position will be based in Hanoi with frequent travel to Cao Bang & Ha Giang
Key responsibilities
1. Provide Technical Expertise (50% of time)
• Provide technical knowledge and guidance on sustainable agricultural principles and practices, including climate-smart agriculture, agroecology, and agroforestry.
• Conduct assessments and surveys to identify community needs and opportunities for sustainable agriculture interventions (e.g., organic farming, integrated pest management, and climate-smart agriculture techniques)
• Directly implement project activities related to sustainable agriculture in alignment with CARE’s policies and standards.
2. Capacity Strengthening (20% of time)
• Develop training materials (written, visual, etc.) on sustainable agriculture farming principles and practices, particularly targeting women farmers and entrepreneurs
• Conduct training sessions and workshops for local farmers, micro and small businesses, community collaborators, partners and extension workers to adopt sustainable agriculture techniques (e.g., soil conservation, water management, agroforestry, etc.)
• Facilitate farmer-to-farmer learning exchanges and knowledge sharing.
3. Data Collection and Reporting (15% of time)
• Track and analyze data related to sustainable agriculture project activities and outcomes (e.g., impact on farm productivity, soil health, biodiversity, and farmer livelihoods)
• Capture learning from project implementation and support knowledge management around sustainable agriculture programming within CARE Vietnam and beyond
• Participate in overall project monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEAL) activities, including the implementation of the Feedback and Accountability Mechanism (FAM)
• Prepare regular progress reports and contribute to donor reporting requirements.
4. Community Engagement and Networking (10% of time)
• Represent CARE in relevant forums, workshops, and meetings related to agriculture, environment, and food security.
• Foster relationships and collaboration with communities, local authorities, relevant government agencies, private companies, peer organisations, research institutions, and other stakeholders involved in the agricultural sector.
5. Other CARE’s common responsibilities as assigned (5% of time)
